2016 GMC Terrain Near Ft Lauderdale
The GMC Terrain is a compact sports utility vehicle with good reviews, great technology, and an upscale interior. Even the base model Terrain, the GMC Terrain SL, comes standard with many useful technology and safety features.
Trims and Engines
There are five trims available for the GMC Terrain: the SL, SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT and Denali. All of the Terrain trims come standard with a 182 horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder VVT DI engine and a fuel-saving 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4L I-4 engine gets an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg when on the highway, and can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
The standard fuel saving transmission features an eco mode gear that can be turned on by a button. To improve fuel economy, eco mode changes the shift points for better around-town gas mileage.
Buyers also have the option of a larger engine. The upgraded engine is a 3.6L V-6 VVT SIDI engine. This engine gets up to 301 horsepower and can go 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The larger engine has a higher maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds and it has a slightly lower fuel economy of 17 mpg city, and 24 mpg highway.
Even the basic trims of the GMC terrain have stylish features to give the compact vehicle is a sporty appeal. Standard exterior features include deep tinted glass, a charcoal grille, halogen beam projector headlamps and a rear manual liftgate. The Terrain SL rides on 17-inch painted aluminum wheels and all-season blackwall tires. In case of a flat, a spare tire is included.
Charcoal luggage rails, daytime running lamps, 18-inch and 19-inch wheels, a power sunroof, and black outside mirrors are all available features for the Terrain. One convenience feature that is only available on the highest trim level, the Terrain Denali, is a power liftgate.
The standard features on the 2016 GMC Terrain help to give the base model a luxury feel. These features include an inside auto-dimming rearview mirror; a 2-way manual seat adjuster; premium cloth seats; a tilt and telescopic steering wheel that has convenient audio and cruise control buttons.
Optional interior features range from leather seating and a leather wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, heated front seats and 8-way adjustable seats.
There are some basic entertainment and technology features equipped on all of the Terrain’s various trims. These standard features include a rear vision camera, a 6-speaker system, a audio system USB port, Bluetooth for phone, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
In addition, there are upgraded entertainment and tech features like remote start, a Pioneer 8-speaker sound system, IntelliLink, and a color touchscreen display with GPS navigation.
The GMC Terrain has a 4-star overall safety rating from the NHSTA. This vehicle comes equipped with many safety features, but also has some additional features to further increase the driver and passengers safety.
In addition to the rear vision camera, another great standard safety feature on all Terrain models is the passenger sensing system. This system can detect the presence of a front passenger and automatically turn the airbag on or off. Other basic safety features include power door locks, Onstar, auto delay off headlights, dusk sensing headlamps, and traction/stability control.
GMC has added a few of the recent safety tech innovations to the list of available add-ons for some of the Terrain models. Available safety tech systems include two different driver alert packages, rear-cross traffic alerts, rear park assist, and blind zone alerts.
Ratings and Reviews
Edmunds rates the GMC Terrain 4 out of 5. Reasons for its high rating are due to its spacious seating, V6 engine power, and quiet highway ride.
Price and Warranties
Pricing for the base model begins at $23,975, and ranges to $34,000 for the all-wheel-drive GMC Terrain Denali. The GMC Terrain is backed by a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 5-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.
