The Toyota Tacoma is an affordable, and strong truck option with a 9/10 rating on Kelley Blue Book. This is a good truck for both work and play, with great safety ratings. The truck can drive through water, mud, and any other terrain without any problems, and it is equipped with the proper technology to add extra fun to the experience.

The 2016 Tacoma went through a redesign inside and out, and now offers both a different appearance, and upgraded technology, and more comfort than ever. Reviews from Edmunds say that drivers love the off road capabilities, steering, and towing capacity that comes standard with this truck.

Trims and Engines

The Tacoma is available in four trims and there are two different engines used on the Tacoma’s different trims. The engines include: a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine, and a faster 3.5-liter V6 engine. The four Tacoma Trims available are the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and the Limited. The trims vary from simple and basic to more complex technology.

Tacoma offers two interior upholstery options including cloth and leather, with cloth being the standard option on the Tacoma SR5. The 2016 Tacoma also offers a new feature, that not many other brands have — a full electrical plug-in outlet that is compatible with computer chargers, phone chargers and other devices that use a regular plug.

The Tacoma’s interior is spacious and there is plenty of storage room inside the cab when the back seats are folded down. Other standard features include: a multi-informational display screen located behind the steering wheel.

Interior colors include cement gray cloth interior, cement gray cloth interior or black with caramel/red accents, graphite and black interior with orange accents, and hickory leather-trimmed interior. The leather trim comes standard on the Tacoma Limited, and is perfect for a driver searching for the luxury feel in a truck.

The rugged look of the Tacoma hasn’t been changed much in the last few years. However, the 2016 Tacoma went through a complete redesign, in which it maintained the same overall exterior style, but a few more modern flares were added. The 2016 is available in eight different unique colors ranging from classic black to bright orange. There are 4-door and 2-door cab options available as well.

Standard exterior features are 16-inch steel wheels and all-season tires, a lower tailgate for easier loading and sitting, projector beam headlights for safety and style, and rear combination taillights.
Some optional exterior features include mud guards, a bed extender, and hood graphics. There are also five additional wheel options besides the standard 16-inch tires and wheels.

This truck received a 4-star crash test rating by the NHTSA. The Tacoma comes with a Star Safety System which includes many great safety features like Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology.

The front passenger and driver seats have front and side airbags. The truck also comes with an important safety feature not all trucks have, which is roll over detection. In case of a roll over side airbags in the back will be deployed as well. This truck also comes equipped with crawl control, allowing for a smoother and safer off-road ride.
