It terms of premium luxury, performance and versatility, automakers are constantly building into SUVs. And why wouldn’t they? Consumers can’t go wrong with the 2018 Porsche Cayenne and the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250. For the 2018 model year, both vehicles come with minor updates – however, the GLA’s infotainment system and gauge cluster designs get an upgrade. But the real question is, which one is worth investing into? Let’s take a closer look at the two..

Inside + Out

Cargo volume in the Cayenne is 23.7 cubic feet, and once the back seats are folded down, there’s about 62.9 cubic feet of available space in total. The Cayenne’s appealing interior features 40/20/40 split seating, leather-trimmed seats, eight-way power adjustable front seats and sliding reclinable rear seats. The Porsche Cayenne’s infotainment system, also known as the Porsche Communication Management (PSM), comes standard with 7-inch touch-screen display, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, navigation system with satellite radio, and AUX/USB inputs.
On the other hand, the GLA 250 offers slightly less cargo volume compared to the Porsche Cayenne – 19.4 cubic feet if the rear seats are in use and 56.5 cubic feets with the seats folded down. Additional interior features include 60/40-split folding rear seatback with a pass through in the center. Compared to the Cayenne, the GLA offers a slightly larger infotainment display, 8-inches to be exact. The central display includes Bluetooth, six speaker audio system paired with a CD player, HD radio, and two USB ports. Additionally, both vehicles offer two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors which are easy to use, and once the kiddos are locked in, there is plenty of available leg room to keep them comfortable and happy.
The exterior features of the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 are far from disappointing. Besides their obvious good looks, both vehicles come with 18-inch alloy wheels. The Porsche Cayenne comes standard with a rear spoiler, heated exterior mirrors, skid plate and underbody protection. Furthermore, rear and interval wipers, fog lights, automatic headlights plus daytime running headlights and high intensity discharge headlights are also standard exterior features. The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 is standard with front fog driving lights, dusk sensing headlamps, intermittent rear and rain sensing wipers, and a rear defogger.
The 2018 Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 both offer a few of the same standard safety features. Those of which include, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), child safety locks, ABS brakes, plus driver and passenger seat-mounted side airbags. Offered standard on the Cayenne and newly standard for the GLA 250 is Active Brake Assist. This feature alerts the driver if there is a potential impact approaching and forces the vehicle to brake. What if the driver doesn’t react in time? The system can autonomously apply the brakes to prevent or decrease the strength of the impact.
All-in-all, both luxury SUVs have exceptional features which could make the final decision a difficult one. For those consumers looking for high speed performance? We suggest the Porsche Cayenne. However, for those interested in less speed and more luxury? Then the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 is the perfect choice. Yet, whichever consumers decide, we’re sure they won’t be disappointed.
