Awesome Summer Festivals that Make a Great Road Trip

April 15th, 2016 by

Coachella begins this weekend, and if you aren’t going, don’t sweat it. As fun as Coachella is, there are plenty of other music festivals located much closer to us in South Florida and feature performances by today’s biggest names in music. Below are a couple music festivals for three different types of festival goers, located within a day’s drive.

If you are all about the music: Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

June 9-12 / Manchester, TN / 12- hour drive
Unlike Coachella, which is known as festival to be “seen” at, Bonnaroo is all about the music. For four days, a large farm transforms into a small city for 85,000 campers. The music plays almost non-stop until the event ends on Sunday.  It can be a little bit hot, it might rain and there aren’t tons of shower facilities, so this is not the place for people who feel uncomfortable without regular accommodations. However, if you love music and you don’t mind being a little uncomfortable for a couple days, go to Bonnaroo.

Known for featuring the best artists across all genres of music, this year’s headliners include Pearl Jam, Dead and Company, LCD Soundsystem, J. Cole and Ellie Goulding. Other notable acts among the 150 performances include, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Death Cab for Cutie, M83, Chris Stapleton, Churches, Miguel and 139 more. Bonnaroo also has a great selection of popular comedy acts that will perform in the air conditioning.

If you can’t make Bonnaroo, Hang Out Music Fest, is an excellent alternative.

If you are looking for a festival that has the closest lineup to Coachella: Hangout Music Festival

May 20-22 / Gulf Shores, AL / 10-hour drive
This year’s Hang Out Music Festival has several of the same acts, both big and small, that will also be performing at Coachella. While Hangout won’t have ASAP Rocky or Guns ‘N Roses, it will also have Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding as two of the festival’s headliners. The other big names performing at this year’s Hangout will be Florence + the Machine, The Weeknd and Alabama Shakes.

Aside from the great selection of performances, Hangout is awesome because it is held right on the beach! Considering that both Bonnaroo and Coachella are known to get a little hot and don’t have any water source, the beautiful ocean is a great way to cool off in between sets.

Here are the same acts that will be playing at both Coachella and Hangout: Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, Flume, Miike Snow, Grimes, Foals, The Chainsmokers, Run the Jewels, Courtney Barnett, Silversun Pickups, Borns, Health, Matt and Kim, Moon Taxi, Vince Staples, Phases, Snails, Speaker of the House, Strangers You Know, Thomas Jack.

If you want to hear music that you hear on the radio: SunFest 2016

April 27- May 1 / Downtown West Palm Beach / 60-minute drive
Not able to make a long road trip but still want to see a lot of performances by bands and performers that you hear on the radio? SunFest might be right for you. Many of this year’s headlining performances come from bigger pop groups and musicians like by Duran Duran, Alabama Shakes, Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo and Train. Additionally, there will be performances by The Roots, Steve  Aoki and Death Cab for Cutie.
