March 29th, 2021 by

If you’re looking for the perfect SUV compact that has luxury without the luxurious price, the 2018 BMW X1 is your man…well, vehicle. This 5-seater is quite generous in interior space, despite being more slender than its competitors. It also provides an exhilarating and confident ride, thanks to its turbocharged engine. The pish-posh exterior and fun-filled features are exactly why it’s been chosen as Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

Engine and Drive

This BMW X1 SUV gets its power from one engine and one engine only, and that is the 2.0-liter turbocharged motor. The 4-cylinder powertrain can muster 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. According to the automaker, this car can push from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The Sport mode brings some life to the throttle and gives the steering a tougher feel, contrary to this, Comfort and Eco modes are used to moderate these settings.

Both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options are offered, and also comes with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. Drivers will appreciate the fuel-saving start/stop system, which shuts off the engine when hitting red lights. However, those that aren’t too fond of this feature can turn it off. Additionally, it’s recommended to only use Premium fuel for an efficient ride.

Driving this vehicle is incredibly fun, especially with bursts of energy in the AWD version, and has good fuel economy with 23/32 mpg (FWD) for the city and 22/31 mpg (AWD) for the highway. With that being said, even though the car was never promoted as an off-roader, matching it with the right tires, it wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

The body of the 2018 X1 is quite husky and masculine despite being a comfort, and somehow it works. It also doesn’t completely look like an SUV, but a bit like a wagon…only taller; Just like BMW fashion, it can make any trend look high-class.

As previously mentioned, this has the capability to tackle a bit of off-roading, and the 7.2 inches of ground clearance allows it to do so without an issue. On top of this, the standard LED daytime running lights and available LED headlights put a spotlight on the driver’s pathway. Furthermore, the brand’s signature kidney grille makes a statement, which is only further enhanced by the M Sport Package that includes an aerodynamic kit, sport suspension, and high-gloss roof rails.

Interior and Standard Features

The interior accommodates 5 people between two rows, it’s also plentiful in space for both passengers and cargo items. Legroom is generous in the rear-seating area, however, in the case of a long-legged front passenger, there are optional rear-seats that slide up and down. Frontward, the sleek dashboard has a standard 6.5-inch screen. Materials are also made to look and feel upscale, like with the wood accents.

The base sDrive28i is loaded with features and technologies such as 8-way-power front seats, automatic climate control, power tailgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rearview monitor, push-button ignition, and 18-inch wheels with run-flat tires. Entertainmentwise, standard equipment includes a 6.5-inch screen, 7-speaker AM/FM/HD Radio/CD player with USB input, and Bluetooth audio streaming/phone connectivity.
