There’s no denying that SUV crossovers are all the rage, but some people need a little bit more than just pretty looks and a cushy seat. Some buyers want good ol’ fashioned ruggedness and off-road abilities. Luckily, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has these adventurous features without sacrificing luxury and style. Its incredible powertrain options and advanced features are exactly why it’s been chosen as Driver’s Auto Mart’s Used Car of The Week!

Engine and Drive

The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has five engines to choose from, but seeing how two of them are reserved for specific high-tier trims, most will choose among three. Standard across all trims is a 3.6-liter V6 that already gives out a highly energetic output of 295 with 260 lb-ft of torque. This motor is also the most fuel-efficient out of the lineup, specifically with an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) city rating of 19 (2WD) and 18 (AWD), then a highway rating of 26 mpg (2WD) and 25 mpg (AWD).

Next, is an optional 5.7-liter V8 engine that is much faster and stronger than the standard, with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, however, it is much thirster. The third is the 3.0-liter diesel V6, which has the lowest output of 240 horsepower, but has one of the strongest torque power with 420 lb-ft.

The fourth option that is exclusive to SRT buyers is the 6.4-liter V8, which has an output of 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, while the fifth is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 reserved for Trackhawk buyers, and serves an output of 707 horsepower with 645 lb-ft of torque.

It hardly matters which Cherokee model you opt for, because they’re easy to maneuver on both city roads and highways.

Exterior

The 2018 Cherokee SUV is indeed grand with its handsome and brawny design. The truck is clearly capable of off-roading experience, especially with its 8.6 inches of ground clearance (except 8.3 for the SRT and 8.1 for the Trackhawk), but still maintains much refinement.

The Trawkhawk also makes an entrance with its quadruplet tailpipes and “supercharged” badge on the lower front doors. It also involves unique red tow hooks, an anti-glare hood decal, and 18-inch off-road wheels.

Interior and Standard Features

Once you reach the inside, you’ll quickly see how comfortable and spacious this 5-seater is, only becoming more enhanced with each trim. Both front and back seat passengers will have a healthy amount of legroom, and will appreciate the 36.3 cubic feet of cargo room, when tagging along for that upcoming summer road trip. This space expands to 68.3 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. The entry-level Laredo interior is covered in cloth and has manually adjusted front seats, but paying just a little more for the next trim will provide power operation on the driver’s side. Moving up further will award you with leather coverings as well as heated and ventilated front seats.

The Cherokee Laredo encompasses features like a 7-inch touch-screen Uconnect system, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, and a backup camera. However, moving up to the Limited model will at least upgrade you to a power liftgate, power front seats, heated front, rear seats, and the previously mentioned diesel engine.
